VALERIE NARTE is a townie born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. She developed an interest in independent films during high school, inspiring her to write and direct her own stories. She attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa where she studied screenwriting and film. Since then, she has worked in various roles in media, including Content Moderator for The Ellen DeGeneres Show’s website, Ellentube. Valerie worked with the non-profit organization Hawaii Women in Filmmaking as their Documentarian and Filmmaker-in-Residence from 2016-2018. While there, she filmed, edited, and produced all of their promotional videos and behind-the-scenes photography.
Valerie continues to work as a freelance filmmaker and photographer, and more recently, sharing her passion for visual imagery as an Instructor for the Wolf and Woman Collective’s Visual Storytelling Program in Honolulu. When she isn’t working, Valerie makes videos as half of Gourd Creative.
